Who and Why
AIA, the insurance group, held a five-day regional conference in Ho Chi Minh City. As part of the program, Social Cycles hosted a 60-strong AIA team for a ride from one side of the city to the other.
The Ride
The ride took three hours, and the team rode bamboo bikes.
Bamboo bikes are among the handmade products of Mekong Quilts, the social enterprise of Mekong Plus, which employs and trains more than 200 people.
The Organisations
The event supported two local organisations, Mekong Plus and KOTO, and the program included information sessions and cooking classes. Mekong Plus runs a community development program across more than 800 villages in the Mekong Delta and is based in Ho Chi Minh City. KOTO, short for Know One Teach One, is a vocational training restaurant for marginalised young people.
A Ride That Fits a Conference Program
A company ride does not need five days. This one fitted inside a conference, and it still met the one requirement we set for every private ride: support for local NGOs, and some learning for the team.
