Our Aim

We want everyone to be able to use this website. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. This is our aim, not a claim: the site has not been formally audited, and we do not say it conforms.

What the Site Is Built to Do

  • Show a visible focus ring on links, buttons, form fields and the carousels, so keyboard users can see where they are.
  • Give each form field a text label, and name the Km and Miles button group for screen readers.
  • Switch between a light and a dark theme, following your device setting or the dark mode button, and remember your choice.
  • Check the main text and button colours against the contrast ratios WCAG asks for, by calculation rather than by eye.
  • Skip the count-up numbers, the fade-in effects and the auto-moving review panel if your device is set to reduce motion.
  • Describe the meaningful photos in words (alt text), and mark purely decorative images so screen readers pass over them.
  • Offer a Km and Miles switch for distances and heights, with the chosen unit marked for screen readers.

Known Gaps

  • Images in some older Journal posts have no alt text yet. We are working through them.
  • The booking calendar is a widget from Rezdy, our booking system. It sits on a third-party service, so we cannot change how it works for keyboards and screen readers.
  • Some badges and logos come from other organisations and are outside our control.
  • No formal accessibility audit has been done yet.
