COVID-19 and the future of Social Cycles April 16, 2020 COVID-19 and the future of Social Cycles Social Cycles founder, Brett Seychell, shares some insight into the future for Social Cycles, and what the travel industry looks like beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. (published April 16th, 2020) Hello all,I wanted to reach out and touch base during these unprecedented times. The whole world seems to have come to a complete standstill and ‘normal’ life seems like a distant memory. The idea of international travel is currently a fantasy, yet it’s so important to remember that we will get through this. It’s now more important than ever to stay connected and transparent, so I wanted to let you know what’s happening here at Social Cycles. Will Social Cycles survive the pandemic? YES. Although the travel industry has been hit hard, Social Cycles will continue through to the other side. Thanks largely due to low overheads and a very supportive wife, I can guarantee that we will be back ASAP! Will the SC tours recommence and if so, when? Ah, the billion dollar question! We’ve scheduled tours from September 2020 and should travel bans be lifted, we’re planning on running them all (Cambodia, Laos, Samoa and Mongolia). If the travel ban is still in place, we’ll postpone/reschedule. Can I book a tour in these uncertain times with peace of mind? Absolutely! All bookings made as of today have a completely refundable deposit if the tour is postponed due to the pandemic. We’ve just released all of our 2021 dates and have kept 2020 prices! (although that may not last). You can see the tour dates here. What is happening with the local NGO network and the support teams? Like many organisations, the NGOs we connect with are having a particularly difficult time. Many rely on private donations, tourism related social enterprises and international foreign aid; all of which are in very short supply. Unfortunately, governments in countries like Cambodia, Laos, Iran etc don’t always have the financial means to release stimulus packages and if locals lose jobs, they lose income. Social Cycles will be supporting all our local staff in Cambodia where we can. If you’d like to help, please get in touch. Wherever you are, I hope you are getting the chance to go for local ride as part of your daily exercise. Keep your head up and let’s continue to support each other.
