Coronavirus Update and Travel Advice March 3, 2020 Coronavirus COVID-19 | Travel Advice Update Last Updated: March 19th (inclusive) Social Cycles has temporarily suspended bookings for all tours up to August 30th, 2020. The only tours with exception to this are Mongolia (May 24), Laos (June 7th) and Samoa (June 28th). These tours are going ahead, pending travel bans. However, there are also risks of travel complications with travel bans affecting connecting flights. Read on to learn how these issues might effect the Social Cycles adventures. Cambodia Confirmed Cases: See above tableConfirmed Deaths: See above tableDate of last reported case: See above tableDetails known: One person from China was diagnosed in Sihanoukville. He has since recovered and returned to China. Revent new case in Siem Reap.How it affects our tours: There is no disruption to our tours to date, due to the low reported cases of COVID-19. We do not travel to Sihanoukville. However, we advise taking general safety precaution as always, such as frequent use of hand sanitizer and avoiding direct contact with people suffering flu like symptoms. Airport immigration are taking temperature checks on arrival from all passengers.Travel Restrictions: There are no flight bans. Currently, Cambodia is accepting direct flights from Hong Kong and connecting flights that have been via South Korea and Japan. Check latest information with your airline for updates.What the Govt says: Australia recommends ‘exercising normal safety precaution’ and has given Cambodia a ‘green light’, or level 1 (out of 4). Vietnam Confirmed Cases: 35Confirmed Deaths: 0Date of last reported case: 9th MarchDetails known: Vietnam has declared that 16 patients have made a full recovery, with new cases as of March 8th. Vietnam government went to extensive measures to control the spread, with the closure of all schools across the country and border closures with China.How it affects our tours: There is no disruption to our tours to date, due to the low reported cases of COVID-19. However, we advise taking general safety precaution as always, such as frequent use of hand sanitizer and avoiding direct contact with people suffering flu like symptoms. Travel Restrictions: Vietnam has introduced new entry restrictions in response to COVID-19. You will have to go through intensive health screening if you arrive in Vietnam from China, South Korea, Italy and Iran, or transited through these countries in the last 14 days. This has been relaxed from complete entry denial. Travellers from UK & Europe whom were previously applicable for the visa waiver program now have to apply for visas. Travellers entering Vietnam may be quarantined or returned to their point of departure if they are found to have symptoms. These requirements may be expanded to other locations where a high number of COVID-19 cases have been confirmed. Expect additional health screening at entry points.What the Govt says: Australia recommends ‘exercising normal safety precaution’ and has given Vietnam a ‘green light’, or level 1 (out of 4). Laos Confirmed Cases: 0Confirmed Deaths: 0Days since last reported case: NADetails known: There are no known cases of COVID-19 reported in Laos since the beginning of the outbreak.How it affects our tours: There are screenings at entry points on arrival for passengers. Anybody deemed to be suffering from Coronavirus may be detained for quarantine. Travel Restrictions: Laos has temporarily denied visas on arrival for Chinese passengers. There are no other travel restrictions at this time.What the Govt says: Australia recommends ‘exercising normal safety precaution’ and has given Laos a ‘green light’, or level 1 (out of 4). The USA Govt has done the same. You can read more from the UK Govt, although they don’t have a ranking system.Conclusion: Business as usual. Samoa Confirmed Cases: 0Confirmed Deaths: 0Days since last reported case: NADetails known: There are no known cases of COVID-19 reported in Samoa since the beginning of the outbreak.How it affects our tours: There is no change to our itinerary for the Social Cycles Samoa ride.Travel Restrictions: Samoa has implemented very strict conditions of entry, applicable to all passengers. You’ll need a medical certificate issued within 3 days to enter Samoa. The number of flights have been reduced dramatically, particularly from Air New Zealand. If you’re travelling from or transiting certain countries, you’ll need to self-quarantine for 14 days in a country free of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) before entering. These countries include China, Hong Kong, Italy, Iran, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Thailand and more. What the Govt says: Australia recommends ‘exercising normal safety precaution’ and has given Samoa a ‘green light’, or level 1 (out of 4). The USA Govt has done the same. You should also check with Samoan Govt if you’re coming from outside of Australia.Conclusion: Check your flight information and ensure your travel insurance covers cancelled flights. Iran Confirmed Cases: See table aboveConfirmed Deaths: See table aboveDays since last reported case: Less than 24 hoursDetails known: Iran is suffering from a serious outbreak of COVID-19. This started in the city of Qom and has now affected all parts of the country.How it affects our tours: We have ceased all tours in Iran until further notice. Our next scheduled departure is October 9th. This is now considered tentative, pending government travel advice.Travel Restrictions: Most countries around the world have now placed travel restrictions on Iran, and also returning from Iran. What the Govt says: Australia and other countries have placed travel bans on Iran due to the risk of coronavirus.Conclusion: All tours have ceased until further notice, with October on hold. Mongolia Confirmed Cases: 1Confirmed Deaths: 0Days since last reported case: March 10Details known: There are one known cases of COVID-19 reported in Mongolia since the beginning of the outbreak.How it affects our tours: There is no change to our itinerary for the Social Cycles Mongolia ride.Travel Restrictions: Mongolia has implemented very strict conditions of entry, applicable to all passengers. Local authorities have suspended all flights to and from Mongolia until 28 March 2020. This can be quite difficult for Australian based riders for the May 24 tour if the travel ban has not been lifted by then.What the Govt says: Australia recommends to exercise a ‘high degree of caution’. This is due to the coronavirus and the proximity to China, noting the land is sparse and health care conditions may be limited.Conclusion: Check your flight information and ensure your travel insurance covers cancelled flights. Colombia Confirmed Cases: 3Confirmed Deaths: 0Date of last reported case: 8th MarchDetails known: There is one new case of Coronavirus in Colombia, reported on March 7th.How it affects our tours: There is no change to the itinerary. Travel Restrictions: There are no travel bans or flight restrictions currently for Colombia. Check with your travel agent for particular flights.What the Govt says: Australia recommends ‘exercising a high degree of caution’ and has given Colombia a ‘yellow light’, or level 2 (out of 4).
