Activity: Facilities tour and Q&ALocation: Collingwood More Info: thesocialstudio.org FAQ Most frequent questions and answers Is this a 'volunteer' experience ? Well, that really depends on how your company defines ‘volunteering’. This is an engagement experience that benefits local charities by empowering them and their teams by educating others about social issues. The impact you make as a result from this is up to you, but the best way to decide is to learn first. Understand what opportunities there are for you and your teams to have a positive and constructive impact. You could takes the knowledge that you learn from this experience and apply some of your specific skill set to make a change going forward. How safe is it ? We take your safety extremely seriously. And let’s be honest, cyclists and motorists aren’t always the best of friends in Melbourne (and tram rules can be confusing even to locals!) That’s why we ensure the following procedures and policies for every tailored Social Cycles Melbourne ride:Full safety briefing prior to each rideBackground info gather on each rider re cycling history and confidenceAll routes to be mainly on Melbourne’s bike pathsIn the odd occasion we cycle on roads, our route will always favour roads with bike lanes. All bikes fully serviced prior to ride.Average cycling speed no more than 15km/h.Groups always stay togetherFor groups greater than 6, there will be two Social Cycles guides/mechanics.First aid kit and trained team member on every ride Is the day inclusive for everybody ? Of course! We pride ourselves on the inclusiveness of our program and have worked out a way to remove all the barriers we can think of. Therefore, in the event that somebody may not be in the physical condition to ride a bicycle, then we’re more than happy to arrange a ‘pedi-cab’. This ensures that your team can stay together from the very start, to end of the day. Are there food options? Some of the social enterprises and charities we engage with have food option facilities, and where possible, we’ll throw in a coffee at these experiences (we are from Melbourne after all!). If you’d like to indulge in something a little more substantial, then anything can be arranged for additional costs. Just get in touch and we’ll tailor something that suits your needs, be it a post ride drink or a dinner. Can I bring my own bike ? Of course you can! Nothing is more comfortable than your own bike! However, if you’re not really into the idea of brushing the cobwebs off the old two wheeler and lugging it into the city, then we’re more than happy to provide one for you, all included in the initial cost. We would suggest that if you plan to bring your own bike, you should also have the basic repairs with you also (spare tube etc). The bikes we will be using for the ride are flat bar road bikes, courtesy of Good Cycles. How big can my team be ? The prices above are for every team size up to 12 people. There is no minimum, but the price remains the same. We can facilitate groups of up to 20 at one time, but there is an additional charge per person. The charge is only A$75/$100/$125 per person respectively for the three experience packages available. Please get in touch directly and we can discuss and tailor your needs in a way that is safe and practical for all involved. Where do we start and finish from ? We start and finish in the Docklands at Good Cycles shop. This is our point of departure and final destination, regardless of whether you have chosen Good Cycles as one of your impact partners to engage with and learn from. The address is 750 Collins st, Docklands. Who are Social Cycles ? Social Cycles is a social enterprise that aims to promote and support local NGOs and charities through group cycling adventures. All the money for Melbourne tours goes to the impact partners that have been visited on that particular tour (after expenses). The company is set up in a model that, in addition to direct payments per engagement, any further profits made are redistributed to the impact partners, as per the weight of engagement in that time period. Separate to this, Social Cycles also runs international cycle tours for individuals or corporate companies that want to add a richer depth to their travel experience. These cycle tours go from 8 to 12 days and are based in the following countries: Vietnam, Cambodia, Iran, Laos and Samoa. See the main website for more information.
